Perfect gluing of folding boxes

High-quality folding cartons are often difficult to glue because they often have a surface of polyolefins or varnishes that make gluing difficult or impossible.

The gluing seams of the folding boxes are the decisive point here, which need optimum adhesion of the adhesive to reliably ensure stable and high-quality packaging.

In order to be able to glue the boxes securely despite this, either additional, expensive, aggressive special glues are then used or the surface is mechanically removed at the gluing points using brushes or milling machines.

Grinding and milling generates dust that can contaminate the production environment and must be removed accordingly.

An elegant alternative for improving adhesion is plasma pretreatment of the glued seams.

Optimal pretreatment with plasma for folding cartons

Plasma pretreatment represents a simple, cost-effective and, above all, controllable type of pretreatment.

The plasma is generated in a plasma head and blown onto the area to be treated using compressed air. In the case of folding cartons, this usually takes place in the folder gluer during or before gluing.

The plasma activates the surface and thereby increases its wettability, so that the adhesive can spread well on the intended bonding surface. Furthermore, the pretreatment creates an active surface that enables significantly higher adhesive forces.
